Hi Samson,
Following our meeting on the 24th of December 2024, I have spoken with my Officer in Charge and obtained advice from both the Sexual Crimes Unit and the Domestic and Family Violence Vulnerable Persons Unit (VPU).
Everyone I have spoken with shares the same concerns over the serious nature of what you have brought to our attention. The issue, however, is that in order for us to investigate specific offences, we need the individual victims to come forward and make formal complaints and provide statements to police.
After consultation, I have been asked to pass onto you the following information that you may wish to put in a post on the Streetcar forum that we hope will encourage these victims to start coming forward. I have created a master intelligence report for this matter, QI2402227912 refers. If any victims do wish to make reports, they can mention this QI number or the ‘CFO’ in their report, and we will know that it is in relation to this matter.
Sexual crimes and other criminal reports Reports can be made in person at a police station, over the phone to PoliceLink (131444), or using the online reporting form at https://www.police.qld.gov.au/reporting.
Further information regarding sexual crimes and options for victims and witnesses can be found here https://www.police.qld.gov.au/units/victims-of-crime/support-for-victims-of-crime/adult-sexual-assault.
For those who may not wish to make a criminal complaint, however, may wish for police to be aware for intelligence purposes, there is an also alternative reporting option (ARO), where reports can be made anonymously. This information may assist other investigations and develop strategies to target repeat offenders. The Sexual Crimes Unit reviews all ARO and sexual assault reports, so reporters will get a quick response from police if they make a report in this manner.
The advice I was provided by the VPU was similar in terms of reporting, and VPU also review each new Domestic Violence Report each day. Without revealing their methodologies, it’s safe to say VPU have many strategies to connect to vulnerable victims, discretely where need be. Victims should be assured that however they choose to reach out to police, we will respond appropriately to each individual’s circumstance.
For offences that may have happened outside of Queensland, the reporting process will be very similar for each state; for example, in NSW, PoliceLink is 1800 333 000, and their online reporting website can be found at https://www.police.nsw.gov.au/online_services.
If you need any further assistance or advice, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. If you wish to individually provide my details to the victims you are in touch with, I would also be happy for you to do so.
Kind regards,
